    Mon 27 Nov 2023

Well done to the year 4 children who attended the year 4 sports festival this week. This was an opportunity to develop their throwing and catching skills whilst playing basketball and also develop their agility. The children all represented the school in a fantastic way and that you to Mrs Ahmed and Mrs Horner for taking them

  • Curiosity and Enrichment – Year 5 visit the Holocaust Centre

    Mon 27 Nov 2023

To support their understanding of their topic on World War 2, the children in year 5 visited the Holocaust Centre this week. It is always a very sobering experience and one that really makes the children think. They saw what happened during Kristallnacht and how Jewish people were targeted. They had a workshop from one of the specialists too. A really engaging trip and one that helps to reinforce their understanding of their topic.

  • Reflection and Respect – assembly this week

    Mon 27 Nov 2023

This week, I talked to the children about our school value of Determination. I asked the children to think about what determination means and what character traits someone who is determined would show. This led to a super discussion. We then talked about different people from history that had to show great determination to succeed through adversity. I shared with the children to work that Alexander Graham Bell had to do to invent the first telephone, the fact that Thomas Edison had to create thousands of prototypes to create the light bulb, how James Watt had lots of adversity whilst creating the first steam engine and the journey Walt Disney took and how difficult he found it to get his work noticed. We also discussed the fact that Vernon Kay undertook Ultra Marathons and raised over 4 million pounds for Children in Need. It was a super assembly and one that encouraged the children to set their own goals as a way of becoming a more determined person

  • Collaboration – Spanish Ambassadors

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

As part of our leadership opportunities in school and the Spanish curriculum, some of our year 6 children have volunteered to be Spanish Ambassadors. This gives the children the opportunity to apply their Spanish skills and teach our year 1 children at the same time. It is a fantastic introduction to Spanish for the younger children and a super way for the year 6 children to grow their confidence in front of others. A super way to enrich the curriculum.

  • Collaboration – Coop fund

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

Thank you to all the parents who have supported the Coop community fund this year. It was so fantastic to visit the coop yesterday and be presented with a cheque for over £2800. This money has been earmarked for wellbeing activities for the children. We are really excited to plan some really nice days/events.

  • Determination – Year 6 Dodgeball festival

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

It was great to have the opportunity to take a group of year 6 children to a Dodgeball festival this week. Some of the children have never represented the school before and it was a fabulous way to do so. Both teams won lots of their matches but more impressively than that was how much they got better as the event progressed. They grew in self-confidence after each match and even started discussing tactics and strategies! They clearly enjoyed it and had a great physical workout! Thank you to Mrs Davie for taking the children.

  • Curiosity – Library visits

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

It has been great that so many of our children have been to the library this week. The children all had a very interesting and informative workshop at the library and those with a library card were able to take a book home too. It is such an amazing resource on our doorstep and it was great to see that the children were so engaged whilst they were there.

  • Reflection and Respect – assembly this week

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

The focus of assemblies this week was anti-bullying week. This year, the focus is ‘Make a noise about bullying’. We talked to the children about the title and what they though it meant. We discussed what bullying is and what scenarios would and wouldn’t be bullying. We discussed the different types of bullying too. We also challenged the children to think about what banter is and when this could become bullying too. This was followed up by a lesson in class too. Thank you for supporting the week and for the children wearing their odd socks on Monday too. A really important week with lots of really important messages.

  • Collaboration – LBSA update and news

    Thu 16 Nov 2023

Thank you so much to the LBSA for organising the fireworks again this year. Thank you also to all the parents who kindly gave up their time to make the whole thing run smoothly. It was an absolutely fantastic event. The fireworks were superb and it was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday evening. Thank you to all the parents and children that were able to attend. The event raised over £3000 for the school. What an incredible effort from the LBSA.

The LBSA have also asked me to include information about the next 2 events they are organising. The first one is a ‘rave’ for the parents and the second is the Christmas Mingle.

  • Determination and Collaboration – Girls’ football

    Thu 16 Nov 2023

Well done to the girls’ football team this week as they beat Robert Miles in the Rushcliffe Large Schools Cup. The girls were all outstanding and they won 8-0. What a fantastic result and what determination shown! Thank you to Mrs Hewitt for managing the team and to Mr Dearnley for stepping in to be the referee.
