  • Reflection and Respect – assembly this week

    Mon 18 Dec 2023

This week, we talked to the children about Human Rights Day. We started off talking to the children about what a right is and what rights they believe every person should have. It was great to see so many of the children remembering what every child’s rights were. We then told the children a story and asked them to think about the character in the story and the events that were happening to them. They were set the task to discuss each point and think about what rights the character was being denied. It was a really good assembly and one that really made the children think.

  • Determination - Curriculum update

    Fri 08 Dec 2023

We have been working hard over the last couple of years to make the teaching of the national curriculum as engaging and interesting as possible. We have worked hard to ensure that every child understands and live our 6 core values – Respects, Enjoyment, Determination, Collaboration, Reflection and Curiosity. We have also ensured all we do within our curriculum reflects our motto – Growing together; caring for ourselves, each other and the environment. It was great to have this outlined in the Ofsted report in November 2022 “There is a consistent expectation that pupils will ‘grow together’, caring for themselves, each other and the environment. Pupils do their best to live up to this expectation. They understand the school’ s values. They know how respect, enjoyment, determination, collaboration, curiosity and reflection help to prepare them for life beyond Lady Bay.”

We have worked hard to further our children’s personal development through working collaboratively with our 2 local charities – The Guide Dogs and Footprints our international charity ‘The School for Hope.’

We ensure we externally accredit our national curriculum offering and are no doubt aware of the accreditations at the bottom of the newsletter. We have also ensured that all children have plenty of enrichment and engaging activities punctuated through the curriculum.

We are also proud of the leadership activities we offer the children. The year 6 children make excellent buddies for the foundation children, some of our children are Spanish Ambassadors and teach the younger children the foundations to learning Spanish, We have digital leaders in school alongside an active School Council and Eco Committee. We are in the process of developing these leadership opportunities in school and look forward to sharing these with you.

Recently, we have been discussing how we make enhancements to our offering that makes the Lady Bay curriculum unique. Alongside our list of 20 wonderful things to do before you leave Lady Bay, we have decided to introduce ‘Bright’ time to every year group. Each year group will have an activity which we are calling their ‘Bright’ time. This is above and beyond the curriculum and will be focussed on enjoyment and life skills.
