Reflection and Respect – assembly this week

This week, I talked to the children about our school value of Determination. I asked the children to think about what determination means and what character traits someone who is determined would show. This led to a super discussion. We then talked about different people from history that had to show great determination to succeed through adversity. I shared with the children to work that Alexander Graham Bell had to do to invent the first telephone, the fact that Thomas Edison had to create thousands of prototypes to create the light bulb, how James Watt had lots of adversity whilst creating the first steam engine and the journey Walt Disney took and how difficult he found it to get his work noticed. We also discussed the fact that Vernon Kay undertook Ultra Marathons and raised over 4 million pounds for Children in Need. It was a super assembly and one that encouraged the children to set their own goals as a way of becoming a more determined person
