Eco Committee

WELCOME TO THE LADY BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL ECO COMMITTEE PAGE.

Lady Bay School has always done its best to care for the environment, with the help of its wonderfully supportive local community.  We are delighted to announce that we will be participating in the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award Scheme, as well as helping the school reduce its single-use plastic with the Plastic Free Schools initiative.  Committee meetings take place every half term, and members represent Years 2 to 6.  Here are some of the things we get up to…

Our new Eco Committee display with some of our goals for the new year!

It is estimated that up to half a million plastic pots could end up in landfill each year. The eco committee is committed to reducing that number and have been learning how to make little planters for seeds out of toilet roll tubes. These can even be planted directly into the ground when the plant is big enough.

School garden and it’s diversity. Summer 2023.

Our Eco friends took a tally of insect life in our school grounds this week. Thank you, Year 5.

Our Y4 Eco committee member reminding us how important it is to reduce air pollution and keep our air clean so we all remain as healthy as possible.

Well done litter-picking team. It was hot work this term!

Here is our latest Eco Display in the Dragon’s Diner, reminding us all about World Oceans Day and all that we can do to stop plastic pollution ruining our wonderful world.

Welcome back everybody.  We missed you in school.  Here is Mr Border's Global Warming Poem to remind us all to care for our world.

The Earth is warming up,

It’s screaming out in pain.

When will we begin to listen?

When will we stop passing the blame?

It is all our responsibilities,

every man, woman and child.

To ensure it isn’t us,

That destroys the animals in the wild.

Polar bears losing their homes,

The ice caps melting fast.

No one is entirely sure,

How long they’ll even last.

So take some responsibility

Recycle, reduce, reuse.

Stop using cars unless you must,

Let us finally have some good news.

Now spread the word to everyone,

We can all do our little bit.

Turn off the lights, recycle at home,

Try walking, it will keep you fit.

Make sure we have a different future,

One where extinction is a thing of the past.

Ensure this one planet we have,

Lasts and lasts and lasts.
