5BO Photos

5BO put in a MASSIVE stitching effort to make some wonderful ipad covers. Well done to them!

As part of Science Week, we visited the National Space Centre in Leicester!

We had an excellent time at The National Civil War Centre in Newark! We found out what life was like in Newark during the three sieges and learned about military life in the war.

We visited The Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre: a thought provoking and interesting trip.

We made our own moving toys in Design and Technology!

Observing and examining eggs as part of our Life Cycles Science topic!

Making Joan Miro 3D sculptures for Spanish Day 2023 was fun. And most of them stood up!

Hula hooping at the Adbolton Lane field. Spot the staff joining in!

Practising our circus skills at the opening of the new Adbolton Lane play area.

The Mayor of Rushcliffe cutting the ribbon to re-open the new Adbolton Lane play area. Can you spot anyone from 5BM?

Greek salad, anyone?

We enjoyed the bouncing in Wellness week. What a great way to get fit and have fun at the same time.

Flat breads, anyone?

Performing a poem in our English lesson this term.

We love our Ancient Greek style pots and vases. It was worth all the time we spent and the mess we made! We enjoyed putting the designs on them as a finishing touch.

We added a layer or two of tissue paper to give a base colour

We spent a long time working with papier mache...

We had an excellent morning acting out 'Jason and the Golden Fleece' with Partake!

Art homework display (because it was so good!)

Coronation parade on the playground.

The I-Pads have landed. Finally! Thanks for all your hard work designing, making and evaluating. Those sewing techniques were a bit tricky (even threading the needle was hard) but we think you’ll agree that they look fabulous now.

Trip to Mansfield to find out all about what happens to our recycling materials from our bins. Thank you Veolia and Lesley for a great morning. We learnt so much and enjoyed ourselves too. A great visit to help us with our work on sustainability. The machines were amazing!

Here we are in our safety gear before we look around the MRF.

The Cat in the Hat and The Worst Princess with all the other book characters from 5BM on World Book Day 2023.

Here are our William Morris inspired wallpaper designs. We enjoyed working together on these. Which one do you like?

Our English Civil War homework is finished. Well done everyone. What a lot of interesting information.

Art. We used rollers and acrylic paint to make a block print design.

Here are our printing tiles.

Art work. Repeating patterns are in!

Welcome to the Spring term 2023. We had a fantastic school visit to the Civil War Museum in Newark to remind us all about King Charles I and his arguments with parliament in the 1640’s. Some of us dressed up as different types of soldiers and we all fought with (pretend) pikes in battles with our classmates. We also did some problem solving on how we could have survived the sieges in Newark and then the plague. We saw two films telling the stories of people who lived at the time and looked at all the artefacts (gruesome and otherwise) in the museum. Lots of us tried on some clothes of the time and we all learnt something new - musket training anyone? Can you spot a member of staff making a special appearance as the king?

Happy Christmas. We hope you enjoy our exhibition of clay work from this term.

Do you think Henry Moore, sculptor, would have been impressed?

Here we are working hard on our clay models.

Here are our fabulous human figures (reclining).

Reclining figures made from tin foil. We drew the position first. We were very pleased with the results..

5BM sketching in the style of Henry Moore, war artist, when London Underground stations were used to shelter people.

National Holocaust Centre - linking history and RE this term. A thought provoking visit learning about the persecution of the Jewish people in the Second World War, Kristallnacht, children travelling on the Kindertransport and hearing the testimony of a Holocaust survivor.

We had an assembly from the NSPCC about their 'Speak Out Stay Safe' initiative and we participated in a workshop about keeping ourselves safe.

Design and Technology - making moving toys with cams.

Collaborative 'Jigsaw' RHE Work in Year 5. Making the highest tower we could using only newspaper and sellotape!

Rainforest artwork and homework. What a fine display!

New Year, New You, New Yoga!

SPORTS DAY 2022. We started in the shade and hopped, skipped and jumped our way into the sunshine!

Speed stacking. Junior Olympic sport. Practise as much as you can and then try and beat the other team to it. Great fun.

Drumba. If the photos are blurred it’s because the children were moving so fast!

Team A or Team B? Which salad would you choose?

DT delight. We peeled, chopped and sliced our way into a Greek Salad. And then sampled/ate them! Very tasty indeed.

5BM Poetry performances. Well done for learning part of a poem off by heart. You looked great!

Summer DT Flatbread results.

Well, we made a bit of a mess in the classroom but everyone managed to have a go at some part of the bread making process.  The photos below show us in action and we all enjoyed sampling the breads at the end.  Thank you to Mrs Davis who had the unenviable task of cooking them all on a hot summer’s day!

Year 5 having a very active time with Mr Busby.  A fantastic outdoor session which involved PE skills and a reminder of Maths and English knowledge from the classroom.  We practised our number work, including a quick way to do the nine times table, plus divisibility rules and a fun game prompted by standard and non-standard English.  Great fun!

We had a wonderful time acting out the Ancient Greek myth of 'Jason and the Golden Fleece' when 'Partake History' came to visit us!!

This term’s art project has involved lots of papier mache skills to make an Ancient Greek style vase. We have enjoyed working together on this but as you can see we are not quite there yet. This always takes longer than you think!

I-Pad covers completed and evaluated. We think they look great!

Our DT project for half term has also been on a space theme.  Here we are using templates and sewing skills to ‘design’ and ‘build’ our own colourful I-pad covers.  Can’t wait to see the finished products.

Some excellent backdrops for our Space Animation Project!

We dressed up in blue and yellow to raise money for the British Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

World Book Day 2022. Great outfits. Well done everyone.

Visit to share books with our Y1 friends. Smiles all round.

We loved competing in team building games as part of our PE lesson!!!!

5BM have had another arty half term designing and printing blocks of colour. Here are some photos showing the range of work over the weeks (note the William Morris influence!) If you want to see more there is a display up in our classroom for everyone to enjoy.

We have loved our tennis sessions and have developed our skills whilst having fun!

And thanks to Marnie for reminding us that our history topic for the Spring term is ....

Last half term 5BM made silver foil figures as part of Henry Moore inspired sculpture work. Here they are in a ‘relaxed’ display!

Henry Moore inspired sculptures. Amazing works of art!

Class visit to Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre on 16th November.

We loved looking at all the WW2 artefacts with Mr Chris Belton when he visited. We learnt a lot about what life was like in times of war.

A Visit From Gareth Baker! We invented our own characters and looked at diversity in literature.

Look at our rainforest homework on display!

We are super good at yoga!

A visit From Gareth Baker to help us with our story writing!

One beautiful rainforest picture, produced collaboratively by 5BM. Doesn't it look fabulous? Well done 5BM.

Using a scaling up technique, children used a small section of a rainforest scene to produce a larger version of the picture.  Six groups, each with a section of the original, scaled up by a factor of 14, then used paint, pastels, chalks and collage to create an original artwork which is now on display in the classroom.

Six pieces of group artwork.

Starting the year working together in groups.
