  • Reflection and Respect – assembly this we

    Mon 11 Nov 2024

The focus of our assembly this week was Remembrance Day. We talked to the children about what they knew about Remembrance Day and when it started. We talked to the children about the ways in which we remember the fallen and the importance of the poppy. It was great to hear how much prior knowledge the children had about the subject. We looked at an image of D-Day and discussed how the soldiers would have been feeling at the time and discussed why it was so important to remember the sacrifices of others. We finished with a discussion about what the lessons that can be learned from the past and why it is so important for us to try to live in peace in the future. There were so really pertinent points raised about conflicts around the world at present and a really mature discussion.

Thank you to Grace, Lottie, George and Milo this week for giving up their time to sell poppies after school. Thank you to all the parents who supported this too. It was great to see so many sold and to see that so many children wanted to support the British Legion too.

  • Enjoyment – Seymour enjoy their Dragon Reward

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

A huge well done to Seymour for collecting the most Dragons’ Gold this half term. We had a fantastic treat for Seymour on Wednesday afternoon. The Animal Roadshow came into Lady Bay and brought a range of animals for the children to see and engage with. There were so many happy faces and Damien shared lots of knowledge with the children too. The child held a snake, stroked a meerkat, skunk, blue tongued skink, tenrec and a bearded dragon and also saw a scorpion too. What a fantastic treat!

  • Enrichment and Curiosity - Science afternoon

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

Wow, what a fantastic show! All the children from year 1 – 6 were treated to a super Science show from Professor Pumpernickel. We arranged the treat as a thank you to all the children for their super efforts this half term and for settling into their new classes.  The children saw some amazing chemistry, physics and biology experiments. The children learnt about the dangers of custard powder, how to create a spinning vortex, how sound travels and how you can see sound and it all finished with a bang. The feedback from the children was overwhelmingly positive about the show too.

  • Enjoyment – year 2 Space sing

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

Thank you to all the year 2 parents who were able to attend the space sing. It is fair to say that we were not expecting quite the level of parents we had in and it was great to see so many of you there. Thank you for providing such awesome costumes for the day too. The children enjoyed singing to all the parents and sharing some of what they have learnt about space. They also had a super day finishing their space D and T projects. Their rockets were out of this world.

  • Determination – Above and Beyond

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

We gave our first ‘Above and Beyond’ award out this week. As stated, these are given to children who go the extra mile with their learning or something that benefits others. We wanted to celebrate Harry T and recognise his efforts with his times tables. Harry is in foundation and has learnt lots of them even being brave enough to share this with some of the older children. This is truly well above and beyond any expectations and clearly something Harry really enjoys learning. His certificate will be on display in the KS2 entrance and a postcard is being sent home too. Well done for being the first to receive the award Harry.

  • Collaboration – Year 6 Urban Hockey festival

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

Well done to the children who attended the year 6 Urban Hockey festival this week. It was a non-competitive festival aimed at learning and developing the skills needed to play hockey. The children all showed great determination and worked together brilliantly. They all behaved impeccably and were fantastic representatives for the school. Well done year 6 and thank you to Mrs. McKibbin for taking the children.

  • Determination – Year 5 and 6 girls’ football

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

Well done to the girls this week. They played St Edmund Campion in the County Cup this week. They girls are a formidable team and that was clear to see on the day. It was fabulous performance by the Lady Bay team. Excellent team spirit and ethos. They now go through to the next round to play the winners of Candleby Lane or Heymann. Please could the parents involved (and any that would like to support the girls) save Saturday 23rd November in their diaries. The girls play in the regional final and if they win that they move on to the national finals.

  • Reflection and Respect – assembly this week

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

The focus of assemblies this week was mental health. Last week, it was World Mental Health Day. We talked to the children about what their understanding of mental health is and what sorts of things they can do to have a positive impact on their own mental health. I shared with the children the idea that they all carried around with them a measuring cylinder and things that happen during a normal day can have positive and negative effects on their mental health. We talked about what could happen before school, during lesson and at break time that might have positive and negative ramifications on them. The children picked out lots of good ideas and we discussed how these events can add or take away from their cylinder. We also touched upon bigger events that can have a bigger impact on their cylinder and what they can do if they are feeling that way. A super assembly and one the children really enjoyed.

  • Caring for each other – Dyslexia Awareness Day

    Wed 16 Oct 2024

Thank you to the all children and parents for supporting raising awareness for Dyslexia Awareness Week and allowing the children to wear red today. It was great to see so many children dressed in red. We reminded the children about what Dyslexia is again in assembly today and discussed ways we can support each other in class.

  • Caring for the environment – First Eco Committee meeting

    Wed 16 Oct 2024

The new Eco Committee met for the first time this week. They are all very excited to be representatives for their class and are looking forward to making a difference this year. Thank you to Miss Stubbs for being our staff eco representative. The children all received their Eco badges which they can wear with pride around school. The children planted plants in 2 of the beds in the school garden and also reused old pots to plant baby spider plants which they all took home. The children have also committed to twice weekly litter picks and to returning the named school uniform back to their rightful owners. The Eco Committee already making a difference to our school.
