What we have been learning about.....

EYFS

During Remembrance week, the children read 'Where the Poppies Now Grow' and talked about the significance of the story. They then thought about how this links to their lives today. These fantastic discussions then led to the children deciding to make transient poppies.

At Christmas, the children enjoyed the story 'The First Christmas' and then sequenced the key events.

Year 1

During Year One, children think about toys and transport in the past and castles. They make comparisons and think about how things are different or similar to today. They consider why Amelia Earhart is famous and begin to ask simple questions about the past. We also begin to consider how things have changed over time.

Year 2

In Year 2, children learn about The Great Fire of London and The Victorians. They ask their own enquiry questions, learn how to sequence events on a timeline and then use what they have researched to present their findings. During their Victorian's topic, children have the opportunity to complete a local study in Lady Bay.

Year 3

3H and 3HM have studied Ancient Egypt thinking about who Howard Carter was, what and archaeologist does and how artefacts can teach us about the past.

Year 4

Early lawmakers.

4S and 4SZ have been learning about crime and punishment from the Anglo Saxons to the present including the Magna Carta, chronology and Simon De Montfort.

Year 5

World War Two and Lady Bay.

5W and 5F have been comparing the 1940s to today, war in Lady Bay and the chronology of the war.

Year 6

The Maya Civilisation.

6BM and 6D immersed themselves in the enquiry question ‘What have the Maya done for us?’ Using research skills gathered over the years, they investigated different aspects of the Maya, developed hypotheses to test, independently constructed timelines and presented their findings as an essay. Head over to their class pages to see some very impressive films too!
