Welcome to 4W!

Roman shileds. The children spent a long time making some fabulous Roman shields at home which they then brought into school to show their peers. Some of these shields were used in our Roman Show.

Balfour Beatty visit. A team of Balfour Beatty came to talk to us about the New fotot and cycle Bridge being built between Lady bay and town. We also looked at being safe on a construction site and tried on some PPE. We finally designed and built our own bridge in groups.

ROMAN DAY! The children enjoyed a range of activities throughout the day. They learnt about Roman soldiers, their weapons, lifestyle and possesions. They then experienced a Roman Forum. After lunch they played some Roman board games and then experienced what Gladiators would have done in the Amphitheater.

Art/D&T--> The children made some fabulous modroc heads in the style of Modigliani. They sculpted the head using modroc and water, covering a polystyrene ball and wire. They then added colour and wool to add detail to their sculptures.

Art! The children drew self portraits in the style of Modigliani. They used pastels to add colour.

Science! The children enjoyed making plastic cup telephones to test how the vibration of sound travels. They had to vary the length of the string used, as well as asking a friend to hold the string, which gave them an idea of how the sound travelling is affected.

Geography! We started our topic on Italy but locating countries, from their flags, that used to be part of the Roman Empire. The children found loads of countries and were also able to use their own knowledge of European countries.

Linked to our science topic, the children have been making Christmas cards with a working light. They designed the card by placing the light somewhere that enhanced the image on the card.

The children enjoyed making circuits in Science

Art work in the Style of Gustav Klimt's 'The Kiss'

The children enjoyed their trip to Conisborough Castle. They took part in a fabulous workshop where they were handling artefacts from Norman life and also explored the grounds of this castle.
