  • Growing together – Year 3 D and T

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

The children in year 3 have been making during their D and T work this week. The children always go through the same process. They design, make improvements to that design, make the product and then evaluate it against the specification. This week, the children have been making a Shaduf to support their work in Egyptians. They have carefully cut the wood to the correct specifications and used the hot glue gun to stick it together. They all look really good and are quite effective catapults.

  • Be ready – Spanish homework

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

We wanted to celebrate the homework brought in this week by some of our children this week. The effort that Zoe, Oliver and Evie put it was super and they all created excellent kites Senora Lopez set the children the challenge to create their own flag based on the flag festival in Guatemala. There were some excellent designs and I know Senora Lopez is looking forward to creating a display from them. Well done all.

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

Thank you to the staff who took the children to the inclusion festival this week. The children learnt a range of skills and applied them to lots of different games. It was a great way for the children to learn sport in an inclusion friendly environment and all the children who attended thoroughly enjoyed their morning out.

  • Caring for the environment – assembly this week

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

The focus of our assembly this week was OPAL play. We started the assembly by asking the children to think about the difference between their play opportunities at break and lunch. We then asked the children to think about what works well at lunch and what works well at break. There was lots of interesting feedback during this. We then introduced the children to the concept of OPAL play and showed them a video of what a school with OPAL would be doing during their lunchtime. It sparked great excitement amongst the children. The children then discussed what sorts of activities they would like to add at lunch. The children will all have their say throughout this journey and will have weekly OPAL assemblies after Christmas where they can share which paly is working and how what could be improved further. A big change that will be happening straight after Christmas will be

  • Caring for the environment – assembly this week

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

The focus of our assembly this week was plastic. We started with the question – what are the positives and negatives of using plastic. We used this as a discussion point. The children came up with lots of positives for the uses of plastic and also lots of negatives. We looked at all the different products that use plastics too. We discussed the need for reducing the amount of plastic that we use and looked at the amount of plastic that ends up in landfill and the ocean each year. We also talked about how our litter makes it from Nottingham all the way to the ocean too. We finished thinking about ways that we could help use less plastic and the importance or reducing, reusing and recycling. A super assembly and one that supports our efforts as an Eco school

  • Caring for ourselves – Year 4 and Foundation Bright time

    Thu 05 Dec 2024

We would like to once again thank the LBSA for providing the funds for our Bright time. This week, we welcomed in Mini first aid to talk to our children in foundation and year 4. Mini first aid worked with the children in Foundation to supplement their work on people who help us. They talked to the children about the basics of first aid and how to keep safe. They then spent the rest of the day working with the children in year 4. All the children learnt CPR, what to do if someone has had a heart attack, how to treat scalds and burns and how to help someone who is choking. They were also able to ask lots of questions too. These lifesaving skills are not on the school curriculum but are part of the bespoke journey the children take through their time at Lady Bay. Another super activity funded by the LBSA.

  • Respect and Enrichment – Year 5 visitors from the Holocaust Centre

    Mon 11 Nov 2024

We were delighted to welcome two visitors from the Holocaust centre this week. The two members of staff spent ½ a day in each year 5 class and were blown away by the children’s knowledge and behaviour during their talks. The children engaged fully in the tasks and asked lots of pertinent questions. The children all learnt about the Holocaust and what happened during this period of history. They also followed the journey of a

  • Enjoyment – LBSA school disco

    Mon 11 Nov 2024

Thank you to the LABSA for arranging the first disco of the year this week. Thanks to all the parents and staff who volunteered to help and thank you to all of you for supporting the event. It was great to see so many children enjoying themselves. We are not sure how much money the disco raised for the school, but the money will go towards providing engaging and enriching experiences for the children at school.

  • Enjoyment and Enrichment – Year 6 Bright time

    Mon 11 Nov 2024

The children in year 6 had a fantastic music enrichment activity this week. They missed this at the end of year 5 and will be a feature of the year 5 curriculum as we move forward. The children formed a band in the day. It was a superb was to enrich the children’s music curriculum and give them experiences beyond the curriculum. Laurence stated, “I have loved today. I have never played the guitar but learnt 4 chords today and played a song.” The end performance was outstanding with children singing and playing a range of instruments.
