Be ready – Year 1 and 2 nativity
Wed 18 Dec 2024Wow, what a nativity! The children in year 1 and 2 blew our socks off this week with their efforts in their nativity. The children knew all their lines, their singing and acting was excellent and they all showed a proficient use of the microphone. The children told the story of the nativity through the play ‘Baubles’. It really was fantastic. Thank you to Jonathan, Christine and Nikki at the church for letting us use the beautifully decorated room and for their support in the build up to it. Thank you to all the parents who helped all the children learn their lines and provided such wonderful costumes. Thank you to the year 1 and 2 team who have worked tirelessly to create such a wonderful show. A final thank you to all the children for their incredible effort. We had lots of positive feedback from parents and it was a great way to start the festive season.

Caring for the environment – Eco committee meeting this week
Thu 12 Dec 2024The Eco Committee continued to complete their work on the environmental review this week. This goes towards our green flag award. The children were great at taking the lead including completing a litter survey of the playground, speaking with teachers and finding the site manager to ask about the use of pesticides in school. They also checked out the school garden to see how the plants we had planted were growing in and are happy to report they are doing well.

Be ready – Opal Play assembly
Thu 12 Dec 2024We used our assembly time this week to survey the children about their experiences of play at lunchtime. We asked the children to think about what they enjoyed about lunch, what they didn’t enjoy about lunch and what could be done to improve this. We asked the children to reflect on the types of play on offer out side and whether they felt there was enough variation. This was a really interesting discussion and allowed us to reflect on the feelings of the children. We finished asking them about what they would like to see on the playground. There were some excellent ideas including: quiet spaces, buddy benches arts and crafts, den building, mud kitchen and sand pit. There were some more extreme ideas such as swimming pools and ice cream stands which might be a little difficult to create spaces for. As mentioned, the children will have their say throughout this process and will be able to shape the offering we have at lunchtime. Thank you to all the parents, grandparent and businesses that have donated so far. We are all very excited to get started

Be Ready – Year 5 World War 2 Day
Thu 05 Dec 2024Wow, what a fantastic day year 5 had this week! It was fantastic to walk into the classroom and see so many artefacts laid out on all the tables. The children were taken back to what it would have been like to live during the war. They were able to touch and explore items from the time and it was clear they were all fascinated. It was great to see them all getting into character in the playground as they were learning to be wardens. It was a truly fantastic day and a great way for the children to be immersed in their learning. Thank you to Jason King who led the day and to all the parents who were able to help out too. It was unfortunate the weather was so bad as they had planned to walk to the site of the air raid shelter but this wasn’t possible.
