  • Be ready – Year 3 playing Gaelic football

    Fri 24 Jan 2025

The children in year 3 were treated to an extra sport session this week. We try to ensure the children play a range of sports and where possible introduce the children to a new sport. Today, a coach came in to deliver a session of Gaelic football. It was really fun. The children learnt how to pass and learnt some of the rules too. They will be having a few more sessions up until half term.

  • Caring for each other – Assembly this week

    Fri 24 Jan 2025

We used our assembly to talk to the children about OPAL again this week. We asked the children to think about what they feel is working well about OPAL and they shared what they have enjoyed so far. The children also shared what they haven’t enjoyed as much and what they feel could be improved further. We also introduced the new play equipment and types to the children. The children talked about pallets and planks. We discussed the potential be4nefits and how they could be used in play effectively. We also talked to the children about the potential risks and why they have to be careful and cautious when using them. They are all becoming more aware of the risks out side and discussing the benefits they feel they will have by playing with different items doing OPAL lunches. Thank you to Ellen (Jemima and Tamsin’s mum) who is doing a great job as a parent on the play team. Ellen arranged for some parents to come in to put up the music wall. It looks great and the children really enjoyed using it today. Just a quick note to say please could you try to avoid picking your child up for appointments etc… during lunchtime. The children have access to the whole site now at lunchtime which makes finding an individual quite challenging.

  • Growing together – International School Award

    Mon 13 Jan 2025

I would like to say a huge well done to Senora Lopez for her work on achieving the International School Award. Senora Lopez has collected a bank of evidence containing all the amazing things we do to support the children’s understanding of a modern foreign language. The children are all doing incredibly well in Spanish and often leave us moving into the top sets in secondary school. Our work during the Spanish Café, the work with the School for Hope in Guatemala and the Spanish festivals we cover have all supported our application.

  • Enrichment – Year 1 writing instructions

    Mon 13 Jan 2025

Well done to year 1 this week for their work in English. The children have been learning about instructions, how to write them and also the types of language they need to use. They started off the week trying to make a jam sandwich with some very unhelpful instructions which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They then had to follow a set of instructions to make a loaf of bread. It was tricky to do but the end product was amazing. A super way to enrich the children’s learning and a great way to teach instructions.

  • Be ready – foundation launch their space topic

    Mon 13 Jan 2025

It was great to see the children in foundation dressed up this week to launch their work on space and aliens. There were so many super space themes outfits and it was a super way to ensure the children were interested in their topic this half term. Thank you to all the foundation parents for supporting the foundation team with this.

  • Be safe – Opal Play

    Mon 13 Jan 2025

After the assembly, we were incredibly excited to launch a completely new lunchtime for the children. For the first time at Lady Bay, the children were completely mixed up and were able to access all areas of the school site. It was incredibly liberating for the children and the feedback from them has been extremely positive. A year 1 child stated, “I just love being able to play with my sister at lunchtime.”

We have set the playground up into zones and have each zone being supported by a member of the play team. Mr Dearnley, Mrs Keane and I were also on had to support the children with their play choices. They have had access to water play, the mud kitchen, sporting activities including hockey, dress-up clothes, small world activities, building with crates and planks, suitcases and wheelbarrows and much more. Thank you to the parents who have stopped to give feedback or sent in emails, it has been much appreciated. Thank you to all the play team for their efforts so far. I have captured some of their play in a few photos below with much more to come in the future.

If you have had a sort out after Christmas or you have anything else form the list to donate, please do so. We particularly need any old helmets so we can set up the scooter section and any small world (cars, dinosaurs, figures etc…)  and construction items _building, Lego, Duplo etc...) The dress up has been a huge hit too! The suitcases have been really popular as have the wheelbarrows and pushchairs.

It really is making a huge difference to the children’s happiness at lunchtime. In the first week, there has also been a significant decrease in first aid instances because so many of the children are busy.

  • Enrichment - OPAL Launch

    Tue 07 Jan 2025

We had an excellent start to 2025 with the launch of our OPAL lunchtimes. Thank you for all the donations. The children fed back that they have really enjoyed all the new activities available to do in the playground and also that they have loved mixing with different year groups.

  • Enrichment – Year 3 Egyptian day

    Wed 18 Dec 2024

It was great to see all the children in year 3 enjoying their Egyptian experience this week. Partake came in to school to enrich the children’s learning. The children learnt about life in Ancient Egypt, how different people lived their lives (whether they were rich or poor) and the mummification process. It was a fun and interactive day and the children learnt lots from it.

  • Enrichment – Lower school visit to the panto

    Wed 18 Dec 2024

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the panto with year 1, 2 and 3 this week. The children went to see Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal. It was a fantastic show and the children were laughing lots throughout. Thank you to the parent helpers who were able to attend. Thanks to all the office staff for their work organising the event and to the teaching staff who attended too. Another successful trip for Lady Bay to the panto.

  • Enrichment – Year 6 trip to Cadbury World

    Wed 18 Dec 2024

To enrich their work on the Mayan topic, the children visited Cadbury World today. It was a fantastic trip where the children learn about the chocolate making process, the history of chocolate in England and where Cocoa originated from. It is always a super way to finish off their topic and a great treat for all their hard work in the Mayan museum
