  • Be ready – Year 5 and 6 Girls’ football

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

Well done to the girls’ football team this week. The girls’ team and the development team played St Edmund Campion this week. The team put in a great performance winning the match 12-0. Sophie scored 4, Natalie scored 3, Sophia scored 2 and Hannah, Thea and Juliette all scored won. A superb performance. The development team impressed Ms Hewitt with great team work as well as some brilliant individual displays of football too. They finished the game 1-0 winners too. What a great afternoon of football.

  • Be Kind – Assembly this week

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

In our assembly this week, we asked the children to think about what their life would be like if they were told that they were not allowed to go to school. It generated lots of interesting discussion and most came around to the idea that it might be nice to be at home for a while, but they would eventually get bored and want to learn again. We then asked them to think about what it would be like if only girls were not allowed to go to school. This raised a lot of debate and they were quick to reference the fact that this would be discriminating against the protected characteristic of sex. We then made the link to the fact that it is Nobel Peace Prize day on the 10th December and we showed them what happened to Malala Yousafzai. The children were amazed that only 13 years ago girls were not allowed to go to school in this region in Pakistan and even more that 215 million children worldwide do not go to school. A powerful assembly and one that provoked a lot of discussion and reflection.

  • Be Kind – Assembly this week

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

In our assembly this week, we talked to the children about gender stereotypes. This complemented the children’s understanding of the protected characteristic of sex. I started by reading the book, “Dogs don’t do Ballet” to try to get them to understand and thought about the limitations put on the dog in the story.  Firstly, we thought about what a stereotype is and tried to define it and then discussed what a gender stereotype might be. The children were really good at thinking about different examples of gender stereotypes that they could of. We looked at the history of gender stereotypes and where they came from and why they do not have place in society today.  A really interesting assembly and one that sparked lots of interesting discussion.

  • Be Ready – Year 3 making Shadufs

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

The children in year 3 have ben learning about Ancient Egypt in their topic work this half term. They have learnt lots about mummification, who the famous explorers were and where Egypt is in relation to where they live. This week, the children have been learning about Egyptian tools and how they used Shadufs to collect water from the Nile. They have really enjoyed the topic and they particularly enjoyed making Shadufs in D and T this week. They had to think about different lever mechanisms and plan how they would make their own. The end products were really good and I am sure they will enjoy evaluating their effectiveness next week.

  • Be Ready – Year 6 rowing festival

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

Mrs Davie took a group of year 6 children to a rowing festival this week. She said that they were such a lovely group to take out of school. She said, “the emphasis of the whole event was on team work as both the boys and girls had to work together to improve their performance across a range of speed and endurance relays. Because they cooperated so well and encouraged each other, both teams beat their initial time and distance. It was great to see the progress but also watch them having an enjoyable time.” Sounds like a super event.

  • Be Ready – Year 5 World War 2 day

    Fri 05 Dec 2025

Wow, what a fantastic day year 5 had yesterday. We invited Jason King and Chris Reynolds to deliver an action-packed World War 2 day to the children. Jason brought is a range of artefacts for the children to explore. The focus of the day was on the Blitz and what to do in an air raid. They looked at information from the day, they were able to try on different outfits from the war and find out what it was like to be an air raid warden. They found out information about actual people who lived during the war and what happened to them during the Blitz and then visited the air raid shelter in Lady Bay. What a fantastic day and what a super way to enrich their topic.

  • Be Ready – Year 5 WW2 homework

    Mon 24 Nov 2025

I was totally blown away by the quality of the year 5 homework this week. The children were given two weeks to create a project on something that particularly interested them from World War 2. The effort and details they have included is outstanding. There was work on the role of women during World War 2, information on the blitz, a suitcase that a child would have had on the Kinder transport with a letter from them, information on battles during the war, comprehensive information on rationing and even personal information from one child’s family who had children staying with their grandparents. A truly fantastic project and we are so proud of the amount of effort the children have put in creating them.

  • Caring for the environment – Eco Committee meeting

    Mon 24 Nov 2025

The Eco Committee met last week to move the two planters into the foundation garden and set them up. We used the money raised last year for the Eco Committee. The Committee will also be meeting next week to learn about planting bulbs. They are hoping to get the whole school involved in this too. Well done Eco Committee.

  • Be Kind – Assembly this week

    Mon 24 Nov 2025

In our assembly this week, we talked to the children about mutual respect and tolerance. We read the story ‘Elmer’ to the children in year 1 and ‘The Island’ to the children in years 3-6. We discussed the characters in the books and the way they were treated by others. We asked the children to put themselves in the shoes of the character and to describe how they would feel in that situation. We also asked them to consider how they would have acted in that situation if they were one of the other characters in the books and how we should treat people who are different to you. A really important and powerful assembly asking the children to think about how we show mutual respect and tolerance towards others.

  • Be Ready – Foundation Art

    Mon 24 Nov 2025

Well done to the children in foundation for their amazing art work this week. The foundation topic this half term is Winter Wonderland. The children created some Andy Warhol inspired pictures of animals who live in colder climates. They all tried really hard and the finished piece with all their artwork together is amazing. Well done to all the foundation children.
