Be Ready (Reflection) – Assembly on discrimination
Wed 02 Jul 2025This week, we talked to the children about discrimination and prejudice and the difference between the two. We looked at different scenarios and have the children the chance to discuss them. They explored whether they felt it was discrimination or prejudice. We then looked at specific examples based on the protected characteristics. I asked the children to consider how they would have felt if they had been discriminated against because of their race or gender. It was a very interesting discussion. My favourite quote was from Adalia in year 6 who, whilst talking about prejudice, stated, “We should never judge a book by its cover. We may all look different, but inside we are the same.” A really powerful quote. Finally, we finished the assembly by asking the children to think about why it is important to learn about discrimination and prejudice. We also discussed what lessons can be learnt from the past. A really powerful assembly and one with lots of important dialogue

Be Ready (Determination) – Girls’ County Cup Semi-Final
Wed 02 Jul 2025The girls played their County Cup Semi-Final this week. They have a very difficult match against Edwalton. It was a thoroughly entertaining game with some excellent football played on both sides. The teams could not be separated at full time with the game ending 4-4. There was a further 10 minutes of extra time and although Lady Bay piled on the pressure, they could not find the winning goal. It ended up going to penalties and thankfully the girls held their nerve and were victorious. Mrs. Hewitt asked me to give a special mention to Tabitha who was player of the match and brilliant in defense. Well done girls, we look forward to their County Cup finals soon.

Be Ready – Year 4 bridge building
Wed 02 Jul 2025As part of the D and T project, the children in year 4 have been looking at bridges and their construction. They have designed their own bridges thinking about he materials they have and thought about how to make their bridge as strong as possible. They have all worked really hard in the making part. They still have time to finish them off and then test them to see if their bridge is strong enough to hold a certain amount of weight. A super project.

Be Ready (Reflection) – Assembly this week
Wed 25 Jun 2025This week, we talked to the children about the Windrush. We started the assembly off with asking the children about their understanding of the Windrush and whether they knew anything about it. Some of the younger children had heard of it and some of the older children could remember some of the facts about what happened. We asked the children to think about how they would have felt if they had to leave their home and move to a new country. There were some great responses and the children were very good at placing themselves in the shoes of someone at the time. We also discussed how they would have felt if they had made such a big move and to not be welcomed by the place they move to due to the colour of their skin. This brought about a lot of discussion, It was clearly a very emotive topic. A really good assembly and one that teaches the children about the protected characteristic of race and that we should not discriminate in any way on the grounds of race

Growing together – OPAL
Wed 25 Jun 2025What an amazing week of weather! It is so lovely being an OPAL school when the weather is like this. We have had all the zones open and the children have been enjoying playing. We started the week with an assembly reminding them all about the expectations in the garden. There have been a few occasions where children have been digging up or picking the flowers. We have reminded them that they are to look at and enjoy but not to take from where they are.
This week’s photos show the playleaders leading a game with a large group of children and a row of dens on the infant playground.
