Year 4 Residential (April 2026)
Year 4 Residential Parents Meeting
This Year, Y4 will be attending PGL at Caythorpe Court for our residential in April 2026. For an idea of what to expect, please see the PowerPoint from the parent information evening, the Kit list provided by PGL. The Caythorpe Court website below is also very useful to help familiarise your child with the location and facilities.
Maths
The long term plan for maths can be found below. We are following the White Rose Maths long term plan, and use their workbooks and materials as the basis of our maths teaching and learning. A more detailed breakdown of what your child will be learning is available in the maths curriculum page, alongside more useful parent links
Times Tables
In June Y4 children will take the government statutory times tables test. This will test all tables up to 12×12, in a 25 question test with 6 seconds to respond and input an answer. Please continue to practise at home, using TTRockstars or any other method.
Year 4 Overview
Alongside Maths and English, we have several topics planned for this year which will cover a range of curriculum areas including Science, Geography and History. These will be excitedly woven into topics and ‘drivers’ for learning!
Autumn
In the first half term, we delve into the past through our study of Norman Castles. Inspired by their research in history, the children create English stories based on the famous outlaw, Robin Hood, and write a non-chronological report on the Bayeux tapestry. In Science, we investigate changing states and how the water cycle works. We also take an exciting trip to visit a castle, helping to bring history to life.
After half term, we learn all about electricity with the children, discovering how important electricity is in modern life. Circuits are created, and these skills are transferred to D&T projects. Our history studies will move on to examining early lawmakers in Britain and how laws are introduced in our country.
Spring
In Spring, we begin by exploring the Geography of Rome and Italy, which links with our Y3 topic of the Mediterranean and our History Topic in Spring 2 – The Romans. In science, we learn about sound and how we hear before moving on to animals, including humans, in the second half term. Our topics will support several of our English units, including retelling the story of Romulus and Remus.
In April, we have a residential to look forward to! We will be spending two nights at PGL, and will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of exciting adventurous activities. Please see our PGL section for more information, or speak with your class teacher.
Summer
In the summer, we do a local study of the Lady Bay area, including a walk to see the River Trent. We link this with our Summer 2 unit exploring Russia, Rivers and Mountain Ranges. We learn about the artist David Hockney in Art and explore how bridges are built in DT. We also have lots of enrichment opportunities, including Wellbeing week and Sports day.
