Be Ready – Year 4 tennis
Tue 03 Feb 2026The year 4 children were really happy this week as they were finally able to attend their first tennis session of this year. Rain has halted play for the previous two weeks but this week the weather held for them. They all thoroughly enjoyed the session. It is part of our unique offering that all children form year 1 – 6 have a half term of tennis and one that the children thoroughly enjoy. Thank you to Carol and her team for continuing to support us in delivering this

Tue 03 Feb 2026We would like to say a massive thank you to Walter’s mum and the company that she works for (Adtrak design and marketing) who sponsored our new football kit. I hope you agree it looks fantastic and we are very excited to start playing in them. Thank you to Albie R (and Kate) in year 6, who wrote a letter to the school outlining the need for a new kit which kickstarted this whole process off. We cannot wait to get them.

Be Ready – Year 5 trip to the National Civil War Centre
Tue 03 Feb 2026A message from Mr Oliver and Miss Beckett - We had a superbly engaging and enlightening time at the National Civil War Museum in Newark today. We learnt about the causes of the conflict, how the war played out, the different types of soldiers (including a thorough examination of the various types of armor and weapons available to them), and the siege of Newark and how (if) individuals lived through it! We then explored some real artifacts to support our learning in History and English, it sounded like an amazing trip and a great way to enrich their topic

Growing together – OPAL
Tue 03 Feb 2026We have had another fun week of OPAL. We are excited to have our first play morning this term (more details to follow). This will be an hour where you can come in the see OPAL set up and they types of activities that are on offer. It will give you a feel for the types of play your child is engaged with at lunchtimes and allow you to have a walk around the site. We are hopeful that lots of parents will be able to attend. In the photo this week, the building area was really popular again with these children building their own house with slide attachment – very creative.

Tue 03 Feb 2026Last Friday, the boys played Radcliffe on Trent in the County Cup. We played them in the autumn term too and it was a very close game. The boys were all excellent, passing the ball around and playing some super football. We won the match 6-1 and look forward to a game against Edwalton in the next round.

Be Ready – Year 6 D and T
Tue 03 Feb 2026As part of their D and T work and linked to their topic, the children have been learning about foods from North and South America. The children worked together to make Guacamole. They had to be really careful to use their cutting skills and cut up different ingredients at roughly the same size. There were a few accidents when chopping but they all tried their hardest. It was the first time some of the children tried Guacamole and its fair to say that it had mixed reviews. A super D and T lesson.

Caring for the environment – Assembly this week
Tue 03 Feb 2026In our assembly, we talked to the children about the environment. I posed the question to them – What impact are humans having on the environment and how do we know? We also talked about changes we can make. We used this as a starting point for discussion and it was great to see how knowledgeable they all were. My favourite quote was, “We learn about the environment so we know how to make a positive change in the future.” We also shared with the children information about the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch between the 23rd and 25th January. We talked the importance of it and why they believe the RSPB do it and also shared how we can take part too. If anyone wants a spare sheet, we have some in the office.
