Be Ready – Year 4 science
Thu 12 Feb 2026The children in year 4 were looking at sound this week in their science lesson. They were considering which materials would be the best insulators to block out the sound of a ringing bell. The children were shown the different materials. They made predictions as to which they thought would block out he most sound and then had a go at investigating each one. Its fair to say it was a noisy experiment but one that the children really enjoyed.

Be Ready – Rushcliffe Cross Country
Thu 12 Feb 2026We take part in a few competitive events each year and last month, 10 of our year 6 children took part in the cross country. All the runners who entered the event finished the course and all did so with a smile on their face. A special mention goes out to Ethan, Walter and Thea who finished in the top 12 runners (out of 49 children) and subsequently qualified for the County finals. This took place last Saturday and all three represented Lady Bay fantastically well finishing in the top 30% of all competitors from across the County, A great achievement.

Growing together – Assembly this week
Tue 03 Feb 2026This week, we focussed our assembly on Chinese New Year. We talked to the children about how Chinese New Year is linked to the British Values of tolerance and mutual respect and the fact that people celebrate lots of different events and festivals in the UK. Mrs James worked with some of our children who celebrate Chinese New Year and I wanted to say a massive thank you to Hendrix who shared his experiences. He delivered a super assembly and is being presented with the Above and Beyond award for his efforts. We talked about the similarities and differences between New Year in the UK and Chinese New Year. A super assembly and a great way to celebrate the culture of some of the children at our school.

Growing together – OPAL
Tue 03 Feb 2026This week, I have included a photo of the children in year 1 making a model aeroplane. They were all quick to tell me that they were making Amelia Earhart’s plane. What a fantastic way to bring history to life at lunchtime. I also included a picture of the year 4 and 5 children creating am amazing fort, with flagpole. Some super work in the construction area this week.

Be Ready – Foundation experiment
Tue 03 Feb 2026The children in Foundation enjoyed their work on Understanding the World this week and in particular science. They were looking at what happens when you add a certain vitamin to water. They all predicted what they thought might happen, observed what happened after adding the vitamin and counting 1- seconds and then described what they saw. The water hit the roof outside. They all thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt how to carry out an experiment

Be Ready – Year 3 Nottingham Forest Football Festival
Tue 03 Feb 2026Thank you to Mrs. Hewitt for taking the year 3 boys to a Nottingham Forest Football Festival a couple of Sundays ago. The boys were all very excited to represent Lady Bay and to do so at the academy was a huge treat for them all. Thank you to Ms Hewitt for giving up her Sunday evening to do so and to the parents (particularly Benjamin and Elijah’s dad) for supporting it. The boys played some fantastic football and played brilliantly as a team. It was great to see the BFG there too.

Be Ready – Year 4 basketball festival
Tue 03 Feb 2026Thank you to Mrs Williams for taking the children to the basketball festival this week. The children were all brilliantly behaved and a credit to Lady Bay. The festivals are always non-competitive and a way to develop their skills. In assembly, the children told me that they learnt how to dribble round their back and between their legs and that they scored 30 baskets when they were practising shooting. They were also really happy that they were taught by 4 professional basketball players who currently play for the Hoods. A fabulous festival and a great way to learn new skills.

Growing together – Assembly this week
Tue 03 Feb 2026It was our pleasure to invite Barney Coral in to talk to the children this week. Our assembly was linked to the protected characteristic of disability. Barney is an ex-pupil at Lady Bay who attended our school 15 years ago. Barney competes in the Paralympics and won medals at junior level. He has just had his senior call up so it is very exciting times for him and his family. He brought his medals in to show the children and they all were amazed by them. The children asked amazing questions to barney and were all genuinely interested in his sporting success. Barney has cerebral palsy. He told the children about his struggles at school and how hard he found writing. It was a fantastic assembly and one that showed the children a real-life example of someone who was really successful who was sitting in their seats 15 years ago.
A year 6 child said, “Barney is an inspiration because he kept going and trying hard even though he had a disability.”

Be Ready – Girls’ Notts County tournament
Tue 03 Feb 2026Thank you to Mrs. Hewitt for taking the girls to the Notts County tournament this week and to the parents who were able to take them and stay to watch. The girls played with a superb attitude throughout the tournament. The girls won 2 games, drew 2 games and lost 1 game. They ended up 5th overall so they were just missed the chance to progress to the semi-finals. They all finished the day with a smile on their faces and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Well done girls.

Be Ready – Year 5 and 6 Futsal festival
Tue 03 Feb 2026Mrs Latham took a mixture of year 5 and 6 girls to a Futsal festival this week. Festivals are a great way to develop skills in a non-competitive and an opportunity just to enjoy sport. Lots of the girls had not played Futsal before and they all thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. Latham wanted to pass on her thanks as the girls all tried their hardest and their behaviour was excellent. They were a credit to Lady Bay. Well done girls
