Welcome to 4F!

Art Project - On Your Marks!

Amy and Donna visited us in school to complete our projects. Our work will be on display in West Bridgford Library from Tuesday 15th August - Thursday 7th September, and then tour around other Nottinghamshire libraries!

Building Bridges

We have finished a DT topic on bridges. We studied the different designs of famous bridges around the world and designed and built our own. The goal was to hold at least 1 tin of beans, but some of them even supported a person!

West Bridgford Library Visit

We visited the Library to take part in an art and writing project with Amy Lee Young and Donna David. We brainstormed ideas around sport and games, and the feelings and emotions we associate with them. Amy and Donna will be visiting us in school soon to work on the project.

Y6 Computing Showcase

Y6 invited us to see the work they have completed in computing in upper KS2. We had the chance to have a go with some of the software they had used and program a sequence on a micro computer.

Southwell Minster Trip

We visited Southwell Minster as part of our RE topic about pilgrimages, and to find out about its history as a Roman site.

Coronation Parade

We had a fun afternoon celebrating the Coronation! Well done to everyone who dressed up or made a crown, and well done to Henry F for the prize winning crown!

Living Things in their Habitats

To begin our new science topic we explored the school grounds to find the different living things that live here, and consider the different habitats the school provides. We found a wide range of insects and smaller wildlife such as millipedes, snails and newts, and different types of plants.

PGL Residential

We had a fantastic time on our Residential! There are lots of photos on the main Y4 photo page here.

Outstanding Onagers

In our DT project this half term we designed and built onagers to link with our Romans topic. We looked at the basic design and creating a torsion engine to generate throwing force, then used measuring, sawing and glue-gunning skills to construct. We took different approaches to solving problems, such as keeping the frame flat by lifting the throwing arm off the ground, and bracing the structure for strength. We all enjoyed our onager battle, except green table who were overwhelmingly invaded.

Science Egg-speriment

We have been learning about the digestive system and teeth, and we decided to investigate how different drinks affect tooth decay. We placed eggs in different liquids and observed how the shell (as it is a similar material to tooth enamel) was affected over a week. We found that the eggs placed in more acidic liquids (vinegar especially) had really damaged and weakened shells that could easily brushed off. We had an interesting/disgusting surprise when the milk turned into an almost solid, plasticy paste!

World Book Day 2023

Check out our World Book Day costumes! Thank you to everyone who made an effort to dress up as a character. We did a book-themed maths investigation, to find who in the class would be the most valuable character or book title if it were a Scrabble score. The winners were Michael who scored 32 as Percy Jackson, and Alexander whose book "A Far Away Tree Adventure: The Land of Do As You Please" scored 69.

Story Swap

As part of World Book Day we spent some time reading with our friends in Year 1. We all had a great time!

Spring 1 Achievements

Congratulations to everybody who earned a certificate for mastering their 7x table well over this half term! Keep it up with the 9x table next time. We also had an increase in the number of reading certificates to hand out too. Well done to all!

Modigliani Sculptures

We finished our art topic this half term by making 3d sculptures in the style of Modigliani's portraits. We used wire and polystyrene to get the basic shape, then layered mod-roc to add depth.

Modigliani Painting

We had another go at drawing Modigliani portraits, aiming to improve on our first attempt. This time we used paint to add colour.

Romulus and Remus

We are learning the story of Romulus and Remus, and the founding of Rome. We picked out key scenes to act out and retell the story.

More Science!

In our sound topic we used tuning forks and bowls of water to understand that sounds are vibrations that travel from a source to our ears where we hear them. We made string telephones to test whether sound vibrations can also travel through a solid material.

Amadeo Modigliani Artwork

We have been learning about the life and art of Amadeo Modigliani, including his unusually proportioned portraits. We used pastels to blend the muted colours for our portraits.

The Sound of Science

We started our new science topic by spending time investigating around the school to see what sounds could be heard. We made predictions about where the loudest / quietest areas would be, and discovered there is no such thing as a "silent" area in school!

Achievements!

Well done to everybody who earned a certificate this half term! Lots of high achievements in learning the 6x table, as well as for keeping up the reading at home. Well done!

Multimedia Poem Videos

We have made multimedia projects to present a poem! We recorded our voices reading the poem using garageband, and composed a suitable backing track. We then chose images to suit, and put the whole project together in iMovie. Click Here to watch.

Light-up Christmas Cards

We are very proud of the Christmas cards we made in DT! They feature LED bulbs wired up to a battery, and include a switch that activates the light when you squeeze a certain place. We have learned about electric circuits in science this half term which helped us. We made prototypes to identify problems in our design before evaluating and making our final card.

Gustav Klimt Inspired Art

This half term we have studied the work of Gustav Klimt. Our scratch artworks were inspired by 'The Baby' and show us asleep with patterned blankets.

Life in a Norman Castle

We researched the different roles a person might have if they lived in a castle in Norman Times. Click Here to watch our video presentations.

Jigsaw - Being Me in My World

In Jigsaw this half term we learned about our rights and responsibilities, and how everyone has a responsibility to uphold values that keep us happy and safe. Amongst other activities we performed drama freeze frames of moral dilemmas, and made posters to tell others about teamwork.
