Growing together – OPAL
Tue 06 May 2025Mrs Keane met with the play leaders this week to further develop them as leaders. They were asked what they felt is working well and what they had noticed at lunchtime. Mrs Keane worked with them on the types of activities and games they can play with the children and they came up with some that they can play as game of the day. This will be shared with the children in the OPAL assembly next week and they started introducing them this week. This game will be ruin by the play leaders and any children can take part.
We are still open for any donations. Please leave any donation in the bag hanging on the fence or larger items at the front of the school.
This week’s photos show the playleaders setting up ‘The Floor is Lava’ as the game of the day and the children in year 6 enjoying a game of cricket.

Be safe – Smart Phone Free Schools meeting
Tue 06 May 2025Thank you to all the parents who attended the smartphone free schools meeting on Wednesday. We invited in Stephanie who is a parent who lives in Lady Bay who is an advocate for smartphone free schools. We looked at the risks and dangers of children having a smartphone and the pressure parents feel getting their child a smartphone (particularly with the transition to year 7) There was no judgement during the meeting and I shared my experience too as I have a boy in year 7 and we certainly felt the pressure to get my son a phone.

Be Ready (Enrichment) – Foundation trip to Manor Farm
Tue 06 May 2025What a fantastic day! The children in foundation had an amazing trip to Manor Farm this week. The sun was shining and the children enjoyed exploring the farm and meeting all the different animals. They were able to stroke a snake and Guinea pig and learnt how to look after them. A fabulous day out and a great way to learn about the animals at the farm. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend and to the children for their behaviour on the day.

Be Ready – Assembly this week
Tue 06 May 2025This week, we used our assembly to introduce or Jigsaw (RHE) topic. This half-term’s topic is about relationships. We started the assembly with a biscuit and asked the children what ingredients you need to make a biscuit. We talked about what would happen if one of the ingredients was excluded from the recipe. We then made the link to relationships. We explored what they feel are the most important ingredients to make a healthy relationship and why they believed this. It was a great way for them to develop their oracy skills. We then moved it on to think about the types of relationships they have and what an unhealthy relationship would look like. It was a really positive assembly and great that the children knew what made a healthy relationship.

Growing together – OPAL play
Fri 02 May 2025We used some assembly time this week to remind the children of the OPAL expectations. We discussed how we can be safe, be kind and be ready and what this looks like during OPAL. We showed the children the images of the areas to highlight how each zone should look at the end of lunchtime so they are aware of the tidying expectations.
It was also very exciting in the garden this week. Lots of children saw the newts which are living in the pond.
We are still open for any donations. Please leave any donation in the bag hanging on the fence or larger items at the front of the school.
This week’s photos include a very impressive colosseum made from blocks and the playleaders helping the younger children create a den.

All our values – Year 4 residential
Fri 02 May 2025We waved goodbye to the children in year 4 on Wednesday morning as they set off for their year 4 residential. There were lots of very excited children. The year 4 residential is a great way for the children to spend some time together outside of the school environment and also do some activities that put them outside of their comfort zones. The children took part in a very tall climbing wall, the zip wire, raft building, the high ropes and many more fun experiences. They enjoyed some really lovely food through their stay and were exceptionally well-behaved. Thank you to the parents for supporting the trip and providing the children with all they needed, to the staff for giving up their time outside of school hours to make sure the children had a fantastic experience and to the children for their efforts over the past 3 days. A super residential

Be Ready – Assembly this week
Fri 02 May 2025This week, we had a catch up with the children about their experiences over the Easter holiday. It was really interesting to hear about all the wonderful things they have done over the last couple of weeks. We also talked to the children about St George’s Day. We discussed what the children knew about St George. Most knew about the dragon and saving a princess. We discussed with the children the likely origin of St George and how the story had become a legend over time. They were all interested in the fact that he likely had come from modern day Turkey and the amount of countries that have St George as a patron saint.
