School Council
Welcome to our School Council
Our School Council are made up of two representatives from years 2 to 6 and supported by Mrs Coney. They are very proactive and meet every half-term. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please talk to a School Council representative, Mrs Coney or add a note in the comment box, which is on the School Council display in the KS2 corridor.
The British value of democracy is fundamental to life at Lady Bay, which is why each year group elect their representative at the start of September. The voting process is completed in a fair and democratic way, often through an anonymous method. Candidates are encouraged to deliver a short speech outlining why they wish to represent their year group.

Spring 1 Meeting Summary
A summary of the key points that we discussed at our Spring 1 School Council meeting:
- Councillors were very happy that their suggestion of jobs and additional responsibility around school was being met. They are looking forward to seeing their classmates take on new roles and felt encouraged that they were being listened to and their ideas acted upon.
- All members were really enjoying the frequent times table sessions and felt as though they were really helping their confidence and fluency. The range of strategies, games, chants and activities are keeping the sessions fun and engaging. Children can see this helping them in their daily maths sessions.
- Overall, the School Councillors fed back that their classes were really enjoying OPAL play. They loved the freedom to go anywhere and assess risks for themselves. The tidy up time is giving them increased responsibilities. Members felt as though while there are some aspects that still need sorting, they know that it is a long-term process. Many pupils are loving getting to see their siblings too. They are aware that all improvements they have, such as knowing when to go for lunch, are actionable and reasonable to fix.
Autumn 2 Meeting Notes
Autumn Pupil Parliament
A summary of Pupil Parliament
Our year 6 School Councillors represented Lady Bay brilliantly at the Pupil Parliament meeting held at County Hall. The afternoon started with learning about the structure of our government. The leader of the meeting outlined the major parties, before sharing the differences between the House of Lords and the House of Commons. With a good understanding of our government, the Pupil Parliament debated if children should be allowed to take phones to school. Our representatives shared fantastic points about the security aspect of mobile phones, in terms of negatively using them in school and positively allowing family members to check their location. Finally, in a division lobby activity, the representatives cast their vote as to whether phones should be allowed.
