Our Curriculum
At Lady Bay Primary School, we aim to provide our children with an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum.
Our Ofsted Report (June, 2017) stated that, "the breadth and quality of the curriculum are real strengths of the school" and that “the above average standards achieved in English and Mathematics apply equally across a wide range of other subjects”.
Our most recent Ofsted Report (November, 2022) recognised the continuous improvement that we strive for in our curriculum.
"Senior Leaders know their school well. They have ensured that their vision for the school is not just displayed, but is evident in the day-to-day operation of the school. They have secured improvements in the curriculum, teaching and middle leadership. They know what is working well and quickly address any emerging weaknesses."
We have worked with all of our stakeholders including our pupils, parents (through 'Curriculum Focus Groups'), Governors, staff and external School Improvement Partners (SIPs) to develop and embed our curriculum. It was evident that stakeholders wanted a curriculum that supported our children in becoming "the best versions of themselves they can be", and one which prepares them for the next stage in their education.
Our school motto 'Growing together: caring for ourselves, each other and the environment' reflects our commitment to individual development and wellbeing; collaboration and respect for others and our responsibility to care for the environment.
Our The Lady Bay School Curriculum Journey maps out our approach to learning.
Our curriculum helps each child to discover and nurture their talents. We promote a love of learning and give children the necessary skills to be independent, confident and resilient learners. Our curriculum follows the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum in a thematic approach, and aims to prepares our children to be successful global citizens. Global citizenship helps our children to know and understand issues that we face locally, nationally and globally, what factors impact on people’s human rights and also allows our children to be active members of our community. We want our children to respect themselves, each other and our school, and our ‘school values’ help children to achieve this. Our school values are outlined in The Lady Bay Primary School Aims and Values. Our children genuinely care about the world around them. This is reflected by a programme of local and international charities which they support annually.
Our Long Term Plans below, demonstrate the learning journey that each child will have as they move through our school and the exciting experiences they will have in each year group. Progression documents and overviews can be found on the subject tabs below. Furthermore, to support children in developing ‘cultural capital’ we have numerous enrichment activities as part of our wider curriculum, including offering each child ’20 Wonderful Things To Do Before You Leave Lady Bay!’.
Our curriculum and wider curriculum also supports our children in developing an understanding about the British Values. The document 'British Values at Lady Bay' demonstrates the extensive programme of opportunities children have throughout the school to learn about the British Values and to demonstrate them in their community.
