Growing together – Assembly this week

It was our pleasure to invite Barney Coral in to talk to the children this week. Our assembly was linked to the protected characteristic of disability. Barney is an ex-pupil at Lady Bay who attended our school 15 years ago. Barney competes in the Paralympics and won medals at junior level. He has just had his senior call up so it is very exciting times for him and his family. He brought his medals in to show the children and they all were amazed by them. The children asked amazing questions to barney and were all genuinely interested in his sporting success.  Barney has cerebral palsy. He told the children about his struggles at school and how hard he found writing. It was a fantastic assembly and one that showed the children a real-life example of someone who was really successful who was sitting in their seats 15 years ago.

A year 6 child said, “Barney is an inspiration because he kept going and trying hard even though he had a disability.”
