Be Ready (Reflection) – Assembly this week

This week, we talked to the children about the Windrush. We started the assembly off with asking the children about their understanding of the Windrush and whether they knew anything about it. Some of the younger children had heard of it and some of the older children could remember some of the facts about what happened. We asked the children to think about how they would have felt if they had to leave their home and move to a new country. There were some great responses and the children were very good at placing themselves in the shoes of someone at the time. We also discussed how they would have felt if they had made such a big move and to not be welcomed by the place they move to due to the colour of their skin. This brought about a lot of discussion, It was clearly a very emotive topic. A really good assembly and one that teaches the children about the protected characteristic of race and that we should not discriminate in any way on the grounds of race
