Be Kind – Assembly this week

In our assembly this week, we talked to the children about mutual respect and tolerance. We read the story ‘Elmer’ to the children in year 1 and ‘The Island’ to the children in years 3-6. We discussed the characters in the books and the way they were treated by others. We asked the children to put themselves in the shoes of the character and to describe how they would feel in that situation. We also asked them to consider how they would have acted in that situation if they were one of the other characters in the books and how we should treat people who are different to you. A really important and powerful assembly asking the children to think about how we show mutual respect and tolerance towards others.
