  • Growing together – International School Award

    Tue 16 Sep 2025

I would like to say a huge thank you to Siniora Lopez for her dedication to developing Spanish at Lady Bay. She works with all the children in key stage 2 weekly and also trains the Spanish Ambassadors (year 5 and 6 children) to teach the foundation of Spanish to the year 2 children. Due to her work in school, arranging the Spanish café and her work with the School for Hope in Guatemala, the school was granted the international School Award.  A well-deserved reward.

  • Be Ready – Year 6 start their Mayan topic

    Tue 16 Sep 2025

It was great to see the year 6 children enjoying their hook for their topic on the Mayans. We try to start each until with something that will engage and capture the children’s imagination and make them want to learn more about the subject. The children in year 6 were learning how to play Pok-a-Tok. They were given a set of rules and had to create the game themselves albeit a little less gruesome than the game was in Mayan times.

  • Be Ready – Assembly this week

    Tue 16 Sep 2025

In our assembly this week, we discussed with the children what the protected characteristics are. We talked through why they are important and how they ensure discrimination does not happen. This week, we focused on the protected characteristic of race. We discussed some important moments in history when these rights were not protected and thought about the impact on the people at the time. We discussed how we would feel in that moment. We then asked the children tot think about what this would look like at school and how someone could discriminate against someone due to race. The children were really good at identifying what this might look like and how a child would feel in that moment. A really powerful assembly and one that sparked a lot of discussion. My favourite quote was from a child in year 5 who said, “We should just all treat each other the way we want to be treated no matter what someone might look like.” A really insightful comment.

It is Vanessa’s funeral is at 10.50 on Friday 19th September at Rushcliffe Oaks. The wake will be held at the Poppy and Pint from 11.30. Bibi and Clem have asked for all attendees to wear pretty dresses and bright colours to represent Vanessa’s personality.

  • Be Kind – changes to our behaviour policy

    Fri 12 Sep 2025

We have rewritten our behaviour policy to further enhance the positive strategies teachers are employing. The new policy will be available on the school website next week. The missed play system has changed and will now be called reflection time. This will continue to be done at break or lunch play and will sharply focus on restorative practice and ensuring children have time to reflect on their behaviour choices and try to ensure that behaviour is not repeated. The house that collects the most Dragon’s Gold will continue to have a half-termly reward and we are thankful that the LBSA have said they will continue to fund this.

We will also be sending more ‘Above and Beyond Awards’ out this year. These are delivered in the post and should reflect children who have shown exceptional effort or shown selfless actions to help others. Staff also have some post cards to drop in the children’s bags who have really impressed them with a piece of work or something they have done at school. These are in addition to the weekly certificates

  • Be Ready – Year 2 Planeta

    Fri 12 Sep 2025

Wow, what a way to launch their topic! The children in year 2 had a visit from the Planetarium yesterday. There were lots of excited faces on the way in and the all thoroughly enjoyed learning about Space. The children saw the solar system, looked at all the planets and even found lots of different constellations. A fantastic way to enrich their work and a super start to the year. Well done year 2

  • Determination and Collaboration – Our priorities this year

    Fri 12 Sep 2025

We were incredibly pleased with the outcomes last year and had another set of excellent data in year 6. It so great to receive the Local Authority comparisons for the KS2 data against the other 255 schools in Nottinghamshire. We are incredibly proud to say that we had the 5 best greater depth results in reading across Nottinghamshire, and the 13th best maths at greater depth. Overall, for reading writing and maths combined at the age-related standard we were 20th and 7th for greater depth combined. A truly outstanding and exceptional set of results last year and shows how much we push all children to reach their potential.

I would like to that all of you for your continued support in your child’s journey though Lady Bay. I would also like to thank the staff for their dedication and the children for their determination shown all last year. We have 3 priorities for the school year ahead (these will be on the school website too)

Priority 1 – Further developing research-backed teaching for children with SEND

Priority 2 – Further developing the teaching in the wider curriculum to ensure high-quality, research-backed teaching

Priority 3 – Further developing personal development at school including children’s leadership and understanding of the British Values and Protected Characteristics

  • Determination – Foundation new starters

    Fri 12 Sep 2025

A huge well done to the foundation children who started this week. They have had a really calm and settled start at Lady Bay. They have been working hard and making new friends already. It was great to see them staying for lunch too. We are looking forward to having them for full days from next week.
