English as an Additional Language
At Lady Bay Primary School, many of our pupils are learning English as an Additional Language or are able to speak a second language in addition to English. We celebrate the fact that collectively we speak twenty three different languages throughout school.
Information for parents
At Lady Bay, we understand that starting school whilst learning a new language can be challenging for pupils and their families. Our staff are available to help your child should you need support.

Helping Your Child to Learn
The Bell Foundation has created a short, easy to understand guide about helping children to learn. It has been written for parents of students who speak English as an Additional Language.
Young Interpreters Scheme
At Lady Bay we have launched the Young Interpreter Scheme. We have 20 children form KS2, all of whom have a love for learning languages and supporting others. Many of the children are also bilingual and are delighted to be able to share their knowledge and skills with others.
The children's role within school is to offer help to anyone who needs it, but particularly those who have English as their second language. It can be a vey daunting experience starting school in a new country and learning a new language and the Young Interpreters are trained to offer reassurance, guidance and support.
