This week, we talked to the children about The Windrush. On Monday 22nd June, it was Windrush Day. The date is really important as it was on this day that the first big group of post-war migrants from the Caribbean arrived in Britain. We talked to the children about change and how they would have felt in that situation. We discussed why the children think that Britain encouraged people to come after the Second World War. We also thought about the changes in culture this brought to our country. We then thought about the link to the Protected Characteristic of Race and the fact that some people faced Racism when they came to live in Britain. A really powerful assembly and one that sparked lots of discussion
