We talked about a very important topic which linked to Individual Liberty and keeping safe. We discussed with them the importance of staying safe in and around water. We highlighted to the children that it was Drowning Prevention Week next week and discussed why they felt this was important. Most had heard about the people who lost their lives over the half term and we discussed why people might choose to go into open water. We looked at potential hazards near rivers and at the coast and also talked about what there was near the sea that keeps us safe and how this differs from near rivers and lakes. We showed the children the Water Safety Code and what to do if they found themselves or a friend in trouble in water. A really important assembly and a powerful message.
