Be Ready – Assembly this week

We talked to the children about World Refugee Day in assembly this. We discussed the children’s understanding of what a refugee was. We talked about what it was like to be a refugee and how they would feel if they had to leave their homes and everything they knew and loved behind. It was a really emotive topic and one that some children in school could directly relate to. We then watched a clip about a child who is a refugee and now living in England. We discussed the range of emotions that child (and their family) will have felt. We made the link to the British Values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance and the Protected Characteristic of Race.
