In Year 2 we plan the curriculum, as far as possible, in a cross-curricular way to excite and engage children. Our main topics are: Space, the Victorians, a comparison between England and Australia, pirates and the seaside. We always have fun dressing up and learning through theme days such as a 'Victorian School Day'. We also try and incorporate our learning into plays with some acting and singing. We also have some great educational trips planned for the year to enrich the children's learning, including going to watch the Pantomime at the Theatre Royal, a visit from the Planetarium and an overnight pirate residential to Beaumanor Hall! We leave for Beaumanor Hall dressed as pirates and undertake some swashbuckling challenges and activities on day one. On the second day we take part in a mini-Olympics which starts with a torch relay. The summer term is based around 'the seaside' and 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' and we design, plan and make our own lunches for a picnic.
We are very sporty in Year 2 and in addition to our PE curriculum, we will have gymnastics, dance and multiskills coaches, tennis sessions at Lady Bay tennis club and we also take part in the Rushcliffe Festival of Sport which is led by Sports Leaders at Rushcliffe School. We also have music and science specialist teachers leading sessions every week. We hope the children have a fantastic time in Year 2!
